About Me

Debbie Fillion

I am a Registered Psychologist with a Masters Degree in Counselling. I provide individual therapy for adults, adolescents and children.

I have taken basic and advanced training in EMDR and am certified in clinical hypnosis.  I have advanced training in providing treatment to individuals with a history of trauma, emotional regulation difficulties and sexual offending behaviours.   In order to best meet my clients’ needs, I continue to seek out relevant training, supervision and collaboration that will improve my skills.

My counselling philosophy is humanistic and client-centred.  I view individuals as naturally striving to do the best they can and that the counselling relationship can provide the space for individuals to navigate around the barriers that life has put in their way.  My approach emphasizes respect, acceptance, realness and empathy. I integrate approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Clinical Hypnosis, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Somatic Approaches, Narrative Therapy and Ego State Therapy to help my clients reach their goals.

Issues usually addressed include:

  • Trauma and abuse
  • Stressful life events
  • Major life changes
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Grief and loss

My professional affiliations include:

I am a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists, the Psychology Association of Alberta, the Canadian Psychology Association, EMDR Canada, EMDRIA, and the Canadian Federation of Clinical Hypnosis (CFCH).  I am also a Coordinator for the Alberta Psychologists Competence Cooperative.
